A Partnership in Service
Mark and Dalia Sierra: United in Honor and Support
As the founder of the Purple Heart Project and the proud co-owner of Compadres Hill Country Cocina alongside my wife, Dalia, I am deeply committed to giving back to those who have given so much for our country. Dalia and I started this journey with a simple yet profound vision: to honor Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families with a gesture of appreciation for their sacrifices. Our small effort has blossomed into an annual gala and numerous community activities, thanks to Dalia's tireless work behind the scenes.
Dalia's passion for service and her unwavering support in both managing our restaurant and coordinating our charity events are the backbone of our success. Together, we strive to create an environment that not only celebrates our heroes but also fosters a community of support and gratitude. Join us as we continue to expand our reach and impact, ensuring that the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans and their families are never forgotten.

From Humble Beginnings to Statewide Impact
Our Story
The Purple Heart Project began in 2020, conceived by Chef Mark Sierra and his wife, Dalia, at their Tex-Mex restaurant, Compadres Hill Country Cocina, in Texas. What started as a simple act of gratitude—a steak dinner to honor local Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families—has blossomed into a significant annual gala and a series of community activities. This initial gesture laid the foundation for what would become a pivotal movement in the veteran community across Texas, bringing together veterans and their families in a celebration of service and sacrifice.
As word of our mission spread, the project gained momentum, attracting support from figures such as WWE legend Bill Goldberg and other community leaders. This support enabled us to expand our scope, creating opportunities to reach more veterans and families each year. Our story is one of community, resilience, and the enduring spirit of service, exemplified not only by those we honor but also by the collective efforts of those who support our mission. This journey underscores the impact that a single act of kindness can have, growing to affect the lives of many, and forging a path toward greater recognition and support for our nation's heroes.

Our annual galas and related activities have become landmark events that not only honor Purple Heart recipients but also bring together Gold Star families in a powerful display of community solidarity. These gatherings serve as crucial touchpoints for networking, support, and recognition, helping to heal emotional wounds and celebrate the resilience and bravery of those who have served.
Beyond our events, our impact is felt through ongoing community engagement and support initiatives. We've successfully launched educational programs, support groups, and direct assistance funds aimed at addressing the specific needs of veterans and their families. Through partnerships with local businesses and national sponsors, we have been able to extend our resources and support, creating a sustainable model that continually adapts to the needs of our veterans. These efforts underscore our commitment to not only remember and honor the sacrifice of our military members but also to actively contribute to improving their quality of life.

Events and Community Engagement
The annual Purple Heart Project Gala stands as the centerpiece of our calendar, attracting hundreds of attendees each year to honor the courage and sacrifice of Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families. These galas are more than just ceremonial events; they are vibrant gatherings that foster deep connections among veterans from various service branches and eras, as well as between the veterans and their local communities. By blending solemn tributes with celebratory moments, these events create a supportive atmosphere that encourages sharing, healing, and mutual respect.
Beyond the galas, the Purple Heart Project engages in a variety of community activities throughout the year, including workshops, educational seminars, and social gatherings that are designed to support veterans' reintegration into civilian life. These events serve as critical touchpoints that not only keep the community informed about the issues facing veterans but also actively involve them in making a difference. Through these initiatives, we not only celebrate the valor of our heroes but also work on practical ways to enhance their well-being and ensure they receive the recognition and support they deserve.
